Overview

The Senior Director of Capital Market’s Technology is a key member of the IT organization reporting to the Vice President of Corporate Solutions. This role is responsible for the strategic direction and management of Capital One’s Capital Markets systems which include Derivatives, Investment/Securities, Cash Management, Balance Sheet Management and Securitization platforms. Key internal customers include the Executive Vice President (EVP) and Corporate Treasurer, EVP of Balance Sheet Management, and Managing Vice President of Commercial Bank Capital Markets. The candidate will be involved in the development and execution of an IT strategy that will enable the Finance and Capital Market’s to grow with the company.

This Senior Director will provide direct oversight to all Capital Markets technology programs and initiatives and lead a team of business systems analysts and developers responsible for system enhancements and 3rd level application support. This critical work is important to the success of the Lines of business and our acquisition strategy. Through this work, this Senior Director will have direct accountability for a $20 million direct budget and a staff of 120 FTEs.

The Senior Director of Capital Market’s Technology will partner with executives in IT, Operations, and the business areas. A critical skill is the ability to partner and influence across the enterprise both in the business strategy and the IT architecture space. This role will also require the candidate to be able to develop and build buy-in for the strategy, as well as deliver on the execution and maintain a highly available application suite. Strong communications skills and the ability to work through others are core competencies for this role.

This Senior Director will contribute to the technology organization’s success in providing innovative solutions to the business for technology, process, sourcing and organizational governance within Capital One’s unique company cultured

Responsibilities

- Lead teams responsible for Capital One’s Capital Markets, Corporate Treasury and Balance Sheet Management technologies, supporting key business areas under the Commercial Bank’s Capital Markets (Derivatives) business, Corporate Treasury, and Balance Sheet Management divisions

- Collaborate with suppliers, IT partners, Operations, and business areas to develop and execute strategies that will enable growth for the Finance, Capital Markets and Corporate Treasury business

- Drive key architectural decisions for our Capital Markets technologies

- Lead the teams responsible for both day-to-day operations as well as project delivery

- Interact directly with senior executives in IT, Operations, and business areas and on occasion our regulators

- Develop a high-performing team and ensure career development

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications

- Bachelors Degree in Finance and/or Information Technology

- 8 years experience in Finance, Treasury or Capital Markets IT Leadership

- 8 years experience implementing finance, treasury or capital markets platforms

- 10 years IT management experience

Preferred Qualifications

More specifically, it is preferred that the candidate has experience in the following areas:

- Masters degree in Finance and/or Information Technology

- Experience with the following applications and data providers: Murex, QRM, Misys Summit, Sungard Quantum, Bloomberg AIM, Polypaths, Reval, Andrew Davidson, Intex

- Experience with vendor management and leading large implementations and systems integration of third party software

- Experience leading custom application development particularly with J2EE architecture

- Experience with Capital Markets operations and accounting including the operational workflow of derivatives and investment securities

Capital One Labs is looking for a Director of Market Development for its nascent Digital Deals business. You will play a key leadership position in the small-team incubation of a strategic new initiative (reporting directly to the General Manager). You’ll be tasked with creating a new market in the Deals space and closing/managing the large-scale partnerships needed to bring an aggressive growth strategy to fruition. You’ll be negotiating with the heft of over 60 million Capital One customers.

- Develop a pipeline strategy for the sourcing of Digital Deals from local and national merchants

- Oversee the implementation of new partnerships to bring new features to market

This position will report into a “startup” incubation team within the larger Capital One and work closely with Capital One Labs. Concept exploration spans multiple emerging spaces across digital commerce and payments, with a focus on mobile and social.

The Director – Model Validation will lead a group in the validation of loss forecasting and Basel-related models used to measure risk of a wide arrange of financial assets, as well as calculating regulatory and economic capital. A Director of Loss Forecasting Model Validation is expected to have an unusual combination of quantitative skills paired up a keen understanding of Capital One's business.

The work will encompass:
- Leading a team in charge of validating Basel-related and/or loss forecasting models for a large number of retail and commercial portfolios at Capital One. Areas of primary focus will be in Commercial and Industrial (C&I) and Commercial Real Estate (CRE) models.
- Utilizing advanced statistical, financial and economic concepts to produce analysis that can be used my management in business decisions such as pricing, risk management and capital allocation
- Organizing and executing complex projects associated with the work described above and presenting the result of his or her analysis to senior management
- Influencing positive change through leadership, sound statistical and quantitative analysis and demonstrated subject matter expertise
- Mentoring and training junior staff
- Interacting with auditors and regulators

Leads a team of statisticians in creating new models, tracking established models and applying statistical thinking to new business domains. Identifies changes required in Capital one practices, defines project scope, executes and evaluates projects, manages individuals, champions new ideas and influences senior leaders. Develops understanding of Capital One's broad statistical needs in order to design, develop and deploy systematic improvements across the organization.

Responsibilities:
- Manage the delivery of statistical solutions (models, doe, etc) to business problems.
- Managing execution of statistician team project deliverables to lines of business (includes aligning non-statistician resources, developing project plans, conducting and reviewing analysis, etc.).
- Manage innovation in statistical tools and the application of statistics (new method, procedures, new uses of statistics).
- Exhibit statistical leadership. Create and execute a compelling vision that meets business needs. Hire, train, coach and motivate staff of statisticians.
- Managing current processes, tests and statistical model performance to ensure business value is being delivered.
- Management of up to 6 people.

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- Master's degree in a quantitative field: Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics or a related discipline
- 7 years experience with applied statistical techniques: linear and non-linear regression, time series forecasting, panel data analysis, optimization, data mining and survival analysis
- 7 years experience with loss forecasting or pricing models for credit-sensitive assets (mortgages, auto loans, credit cards, commercial lending)
- 5 years hands-on experience in SAS, R, Matlab or similar software
